Steve Smith continues to extend his legacy as the greatest Test batter of this century, breaking yet another record in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against South Africa at Lord’s.
Smith entered the all-important final having scored four centuries across his previous five Tests, and boasting an exceptional record at Lord’s, averaging 58 at the venue. Smith’s last 5 innings at Lord’s before today read 110, 34, 92, 215, 58.
On the day, he continued his exceptional form, racking up yet another fifty-plus score. By doing so, he broke an all-time record, registering the most runs by a visiting batter (non-English) batter in Test history at Lord’s. He went past Sir Don Bradman, Sir Gary Sobers and Warren Bardsley to script history at the Home of Cricket.
576* - Steve Smith
575 - Warren Bardsley
571 - Gary Sobers
551 - Don Bradman
By getting to fifty, Smith also became the first and only batter in Test history to post multiple fifty-plus scores in the final of the World Test Championship.
Smith is also the second-ever visiting batter to score five or more fifty-plus scores at Lord’s.
