Despite finishing third in the current World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle, the Men in Blue have received a significant boost to their already strong prize money. India failed to make it to their third consecutive WTC final, after losing their series against Australia Down Under 1-3.
However, that really didn't make much difference as India will be taking home prize money, far greater than it did in the previous two editions, even after finishing second.
The International Cricket Council (ICC), on May 15, announced a bumper increase in prize money for this edition of the WTC cycle. As a result, the winner will now receive $3.2 million while the runner-up will get $2.1 million.
India finished second in the 2019-21 and 2021–23 cycles, losing the final to New Zealand and Australia, respectively. They took home $800,000 on each occasion, while the winner took $1.6 million. India, which finished in third position in the ongoing cycle, will receive 1.4 million as prize money, which is nearly double the amount they received after finishing second in the last two editions.
