Women's World Cup To Be Moved Out Of Chinnaswamy After Bengaluru Stampede?

The Chinnaswamy Stadium was one of the five venues earmarked for the mega event

In what comes as a massive blow for the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), a handful of ICC Women's World Cup 2025 matches which were to be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, could be moved away following the Stampede in Bengaluru on June 4, according to a report on Times of India.

There was a massive crowd gathering outside the stadium to welcome the victorious Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 winners, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), but a joyful occasion turned into a tragedy as 11 people lost their lives in the stampede.

Without stating any reason, the BCCI had recently moved the three-match one-dayers between India A and South Africa A from Bengaluru to Rajkot. Moreover, the multi-day matches between the two teams, scheduled to be played before the white-ball series, was moved to BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), in the outskirts of Bengaluru.

The Women's World Cup, a 50-over tournament, is scheduled to be held between September 30 and November 2 this year, with the Chinnaswamy Stadium picked as one of the five venues.

The venue was to host a contest involving India Women on September 30, a semi-final on October 30 and the final on November 2, if Pakistan do not qualify.

According to the same publication, the KSCA is unlikely to host any matches in the near future as significant damage has been caused to the structure of the stadium.
