Something I Will Cherish Forever: Dhoni Reacts After Being Inducted Into ICC Hall Of Fame

Dhoni became the 11th Indian to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame

MS Dhoni was given one of the highest honours in cricket yesterday, June 9, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced seven new Inductees into the revered Hall of Fame, which included India’s most successful captain.

Announcing the award, the ICC said that Dhoni’s achievement and impact in the game are beyond statistics and mentioned his wicketkeeping and run-chasing skills.

The video releases by ICC on their social media channels for Dhoni featured cricket greats like Naseer Hussain, AB de Villiers, Justin Langer and Dinesh Karthik etc who all praised Dhoni’s impact in Indian and world cricket, with special focus on his ice-cold demeanour while chasing and super quick hands which resulted in batters fearing to leave the crease while the former Indian skipper was behind the stumps.

Reacting to the honour bestowed upon him, Dhoni said, “It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world.

"To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever.”

Dhoni has played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is for India, where he scored 4,876 runs at 38.08 in red ball cricket, 10,773 runs in 50-over cricket at 50.57, and 1,617 runs at an average of 37.6 in the shortest format. He has 829 dismissals as a wicketkeeper across formats.

To date, he remains the only skipper to win all three white ball ICC trophies – the ODI World Cup, the Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup.
