Phil Salt smashed a 23-ball fifty against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier 1 in Mullanpur on May 29 (Thursday). In doing so, he scored the fastest fifty by a Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter in IPL playoffs.
Moreover, this is a feat that some of the legends of the franchise, like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle could never achieve.
23 balls - Phil Salt vs PBKS, Mullanpur, 2025
25 balls - Chris Gayle vs SRH, Hyderabad, 2016
27 balls - Chris Gayle vs MI, Chennai, 2011
28 balls - Rajat Patidar vs LSG, Kolkata, 2022
Salt has 387 runs at 35.18 along with a strike rate of 175.9. He has scored four fifties in 12 innings so far. Last season, he scored 435 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a campaign they went on to win the title.
Salt remained unbeaten on 56 off just 27 deliveries, as RCB chased down 102 to 60 balls to spare - the fastest-ever run-chase in an IPL playoff game to qualify for the IPL final for the fourth time.
