Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals skipper Siddhesh Lad reminded everyone of his talent, with a sizzling 52-ball 74 on a slow surface at the Wankhede Stadium, on June 10 (Tuesday) against Eagle Thane Strikers. The right-handed opening batter was central to the Royals’ run chase and showed his rich experience of playing at the venue.
Despite skipper Atharva Ankolekar and Sairaj Patil’s valiant efforts, Eagle Thane Strikers could only get themselves to 131/8 after 20 overs. While at the halfway stage, this looked like a score which could be challenging, all those doubts were put to rest when Lad turned up, like an eagle.
The seasoned pro turned the heat on the Strikers, absorbing pressure in the powerplay and then putting it back on the opposition. Lad combined a great sense of timing and running between the wickets to keep the Royals ahead of the asking rate at all junctures.
It was fitting that Lad put on a half-century, and eventually accelerated to punch his gloves, as the Royals chased the target down in under 18 overs. The Mumbai opening batter ended his innings with nine fours and a six, and soaked up all the applause in the most stylish fashion, removing his helmet.
