Jake Fraser-McGurk has been dropped from Australia’s squad for the five-match T20I series against West Indies in July, while Mitchell Owen has received a maiden call-up.
Marcus Stoinis and Xavier Bartlett are two other notable omissions, but Cameron Green returns and will feature solely as a batter.
In 2025, Fraser-McGurk is averaging close to 15 in T20s, while Owen had a brilliant Big Bash League 2024/25, smashing 452 runs at an average of 45.2 and a strike rate of 203.6.
With the 2026 T20 World Cup set to take place in India and Sri Lanka, Australia have included multiple spin-bowling options in their squad — Glenn Maxwell, Cooper Connolly, Matt Kuhnemann, Matthew Short, and Adam Zampa.
Josh Hazlewood, who won IPL 2025 with RCB, has also been included despite being part of the World Test Championship (WTC) final squad against South Africa. Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Travis Head have been rested.
Chair of selectors George Bailey said: “We have a busy T20 schedule coming up — this series, followed by three against South Africa and New Zealand, and five matches against India at home — as we continue to refine and build a squad we think will be the right fit for the World Cup on the subcontinent.
“There are a number of players outside the squad who can still force their way into the mix for those upcoming series and through the Big Bash. The connection, role development, and combinations we will have as options are growing nicely as we build towards the World Cup. It’s an exciting time in our T20 space.”
Australia will first play three Tests in the West Indies before the five-match T20I series begins on July 19. Mitchell Marsh, who had a strong IPL 2025 campaign for LSG, will lead the side in the 20-over format.
