3 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL 2025) Players Who Will Be Watched Closely By IPL Scouts
The TNPL is one of the oldest state T20 leagues in the country, and boasts a wide variety of talent
The 2025 season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) began on June 5, immediately following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on June 3. Already, T20 scouts are in motion to identify the next upcoming stars from the various state T20 leagues in action.
However, TNPL, one of the oldest state T20 leagues in India, still remains one of the biggest talent aggregators in the country. Let’s see three such players who the scouts will be looking forward to seeing this TNPL season.
Ajitesh Guruswamy (Nellai Royal Kings)
Ajitesh Guruswamy, right-hand top-order batter and wicketkeeper for Nellai Royal Kings, is a TNPL veteran now with three consecutive seasons in the league. He has 666 runs at an average of 44.4 and at a strike rate of 162 in the three seasons he has played so far.
While his last season in 2024 was a bit under par, where he scored 152 runs at an average of 25.38 and a strike rate of 124.6, the scouts will be keen to see how he performs this season. And who knows, CSK scouts might be looking at him as well, since MS Dhoni’s career can come to an end anytime before the next IPL season.
P Vignesh (Madurai Panthers)
P Vignesh held his own despite being just a 19-year-old introduced into a TNPL side that had R Ashwin and Varun Chakravarthy in the 2024 season. He bowled 26 overs in the season, gave just 161 runs at an economy of 6.2, and got 10 wickets in nine innings.
While he missed the cut for the India U-19 World Cup side last year, he performed well in the TNPL.
His efficient spin bowling will come in handy once again, however, this time for the Madurai side that also has Murugan Ashwin and Kartik Meiyappan’s leg-spin to assist him.
Karthik Meiyappan (Madurai Panthers)
Karthik Meiyappan began his career as a leg-spinner for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and got a lot of fame when he picked a hat-trick against Sri Lanka in the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, after playing 15 T20Is and 31 ODIs for UAE, Meiyappan is now back in India and is looking to make it big in the thriving cricket ecosystem in the country of his birth.
Madurai Panthers have picked him in the TNPL, and with him being a local player now, the IPL scouts will keep a keen eye on his right-arm leg-spin.
