The 2024 edition of the Maharashtra Premier League was a grand success, and the state tournament is back in 2025 again and is set to be grander, bigger and better.
As we witnessed in IPL 2025, state league tournaments have become a factory of sorts for scouts of IPL franchises to raid and pick players. It will be no different this time around, and all scouts will be watching players in state leagues keenly as preparation for the 2026 IPL auction.
Here we look at players from MPL 2025 who will be closely followed by IPL sides.
Atharva Kale - Eagle Nashik Titans
Top order batter Atharva Kale was one of the breakthrough stars in MPL 2024, where he hammered 337 runs at a strike rate of 174. He will once again be one of the players to watch out for this season, and will be followed closely by several IPL franchises.
The 25-year-old made his T20 debut for Maharashtra on the back of an impressive MPL 2024, and he once again had a fantastic 2025 DY Patil T20 cup too, where he averaged 79 and struck at 144.
Another strong season in the Maharashtra tournament will unquestionably make Kale a prime contender to be picked at the IPL 2026 auction.
Siddhesh Veer - Raigad Royals
24-year-old Siddesh Veer had a breakthrough MPL 2024 where he smoked 349 runs at an average over 43 and a strike rate close to 140, but he’s since hit a whole new level, having made a ludicrous start to his List A career.
Veer made his 50-over debut for Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last season, and ended up smashing an astonishing 520 runs at an average of 87 and a strike rate of nearly 100.
What made his feats even more impressive is that he predominantly amassed these runs batting at No.3.
Without a shadow of doubt, he is someone all IPL franchises will be closely following come MPL 2025.
Roshan Waghsare - Puneri Bappa
IPL teams love unorthodoxy, and Roshan Waghsare is one of the most unique bowlers in the MPL, being a left-arm wrist-spinner. The 21-year-old, who plays for Puneri Bappa, had an outstanding MPL 2024, taking 8 wickets at an economy of 6.6.
He was also the second-highest wicket-taker in the Pune Olympia T20 series 2024, where he took 15 wickets in 11 games at an economy of 8.00. Roshan is someone who likes to throw the ball up and entice mistakes from the batter.
We’ve already seen someone like Vignesh Puthur bolt into the limelight from out of nowhere.
For all we know, Roshan could end up being a surprise Mumbai Indians (MI) pick at the IPL 2026 auction.
